I’m always trying to achieve a sort of miniture effect by rendering simple characters in a realistic way. This is another experiment.

I never tried working with the mentalray shader mia_material_x but I’m really pleased with the outcome.

Rain tests

Today I did a quick test with maya’s N particle system. The goal was to see if I was able to make something that looked like rain that interacts with objects (passive colliders). I used collision events to make the splash on objects colliding with a particle. The particles are rendered using maya’s hardware renderer.

The next step is to tweak the effect and render it in mental ray with z-depth, motion blur, shadows etc.
